We are a Christian tertiary institution founded by the Diocese of West Ankole of the Church of Uganda. In these pages you will be able to find out about the life and work of the students and staff of our Institute as well as its programmes, facilities, environment, and aspirations.  Whether you are an interested student, a friend of the Institute/University Project, looking for a volunteer opportunity in Uganda, or a curious surfer we are glad you are here.  We cannot offer you tea through this medium but please, for these few minutes, be our guest.

Ankole Western Institute of Science and Technology might be called 'the little Institute that could'.  It is a community-based initiative spawned by the strong desire to provide post-secondary education for the people of the southern and western regions of Uganda.  In 2005 the Diocese of West Ankole, working with the people of the area and acting in faith, initiated the University Project that later brought the Institute into being.  The Institute is now licensed as a private tertiary institution by the Ministry of Education and aspires to attain university status to better serve the community and Uganda.

The motto 'Education for Transformation' captures the spirit of the Institute/University Project well.  By God's grace lives are already being transformed as our graduates find employment in their chosen fields.   Already they are contributing to the development of Uganda.  Short courses and community extension assist those who cannot enter a regular programme to acquire knowledge and skills for growth and advancement. 

We are proud of what has been achieved since the inception of the University Project.  We are proud of our graduates, students and staff.  We praise God for what we have achieved and what we will become.
